FAES Summer Course Opening Aznar: “It is not institutionally logical to blame on others your own responsibility of achieving the majority nor to demand free support”

_ “From the institutional perspective it is logical that who opts to be a candidate for becoming the president must know which majority he should rely on”

_ “The tactical games should have a limit. Whoever needs to negotiate should negotiate”

_ “There is not much space in democratic politics for free riders”

_ “Some strategies, some behaviours are going in a clearly negative direction for the interests of our country”

_ “When we have to face new challenges whose dimension we can’t fully conceive, the Constitution reaffirms its purpose”

_ “Pablo Casado is a guarantor of leadership, the only one who can build sooner than later a real alternative to the left”

_ “Pablo Casado has succeeded in the choices that have set the pace for PP and I fully trust that he will continue to do it”

The former president of Spain and president of FAES Foundation, José María Aznar, has claimed this morning that “from the institutional perspective it is logical” that who opts to be a candidate for becoming the president, “must have kind of a well-founded idea of which will be the majority he should rely on”. “Which is not institutionally logical is to blame on others your own responsibility of achieving that majority, nor to demand free support, nor to claim at the same time a ‘wide’ electoral victory as you threat with new elections”, he has assured.

José María Aznar has declared the later in the opening act of the FAES Summer Course, which this year has been inaugurated by PP’s president, Pablo Casado, of whom he has said that “he is a guarantor of leadership, the only one who can build sooner than later a real alternative to the left”. In addition, Aznar has added: “Pablo Casado has succeeded in the choices that have set the pace for PP and I fully trust that he will continue to do it”.

THE CONSTITUTION’S WORTH
In his speech, the former president has explained that “when we have to face new challenges whose dimension we can’t fully conceive, the Constitution reaffirms its purpose”, but not only because it is a set of precepts that we have to respect, but also because “it is a coexistence and institutional functioning logic that has to feed the political attitudes and behaviours”.

According to Aznar, “some strategies are going in a clearly negative direction for the interests of our country”. Thus, “the tactical games should have a limit. It is not a time for fun, and whoever needs to negotiate should negotiate. There is not much space in democratic politics for free riders”.

FAES 30TH ANNIVERSARY
At the beginning of the Course, Aznar has also shown his satisfaction when remembering the 30th anniversary of FAES Foundation, which was created “to put together politics with ideas and to make said purpose an opportunity to collaborate with the civil society”. ‘Spain: democratic quality, cohesion and future of the Welfare State’ is the title of the 16th edition of the FAES Summer Course, framed within the courses held by the Universidad Complutense and Santnder Bank, which are celebrated in the Madrilenian town of San Lorenzo del Escorial.
