The report NATO: An Alliance for Freedom was first published in 2005. It offered proposals to strengthen the Atlantic Alliance in a new strategic environment. NATO?S 60th ANNIVERSARY is a perfect occasion to remember and update those proposals in sight of recent events: Barack Obama?s arrival in office, the steps taken by president Sarkozy, Russia?s political evolution, the constant threat of jihadist terrorism, Iran or North Korea?s persistent nuclear ambitions, and the situation in Afghanistan, are some of the issues analyzed in this new edition of NATO: An Alliance for Freedom. The proposals of the original report are still valid: strengthening and reforming NATO are essential requirements to guarantee our security and the future of freedom.
