Vargas Llosa to Receive the "2012 FAES Freedom Award" Next October 24 in Madrid

18/06/2012! Madrid, 01.10.12.- Nobel Prize Literature Laureate Mario Vargas Llosa will receive the "2012 FAES Freedom Award" next October 24 in Madrid from FAES Foundation's president Jos? Mar?a Aznar. The award, in recognition of the Peruvian writer's work in defence of freedom, was granted by FAES Foundation's Board of Trustees, in its ordinary meeting held on June, by request of Aznar himself. FAES Foundation, in concurrence with the celebration of its 20th anniversary, established in 2009 the "FAES Freedom Award" to acknowledge personalities renowned for their promotion and defence of democracy and freedom in the world. In its first edition, the award was granted to His Majesty the King Don Juan Carlos for his main role driving the Spanish Transition. Next year, the award was granted to Baroness Margaret Thatcher, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, for her career in defence of democratic values and the reformist drive she instilled into British and European politics during her time in office. In 2011, in its third edition, it was granted to the President of Israel, Shimon Peres, for his work in support of freedom and democracy in Israel and the rest of Middle East countries. Mario Vargas Llosa thus becomes the fourth winner of the "FAES Freedom Award".
