Prensa Ukraine Leaves the European Union in the Lurch

Ukraine's decision, announced by Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov, to "suspend preparations" for the signing of the Association Agreement with the European Union, scheduled for 28 November in Vilnius (Lithuania), is the result of the Ukraine's own economic and political situation, of Putin's coercion and of the European Union's inability to carry out its flagship project–the Eastern Partnership–addressed to several ex-Soviet countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine) and thus continue its eastward enlargement.

15/10/2013.- FAES Foundation launched on Tuesday 15th its new report, Propuestas para una estrategia energética nacional (Proposals for a national energy strategy), in which it proposes a new energy strategy to boost growth and competitiveness in Spain in the next decades. Additionally, it offers forty recommendations regarding market efficiency and competitiveness; legal certainty; managing efficiency; supervision excellence; independence and innovation, and energy vision. The report argues that this strategy must be underpinned by a national view of energy, with clear and stable objectives, and principles that are consistent with them.

FAES Foundation launched on Tuesday 15th its new report, Propuestas para una estrategia energética nacional (Proposals for a national energy strategy), in which it proposes a new energy strategy to boost growth and competitiveness in Spain in the next decades. Additionally, it offers forty recommendations regarding market efficiency and competitiveness; legal certainty; managing efficiency; supervision excellence; independence and innovation, and energy vision. The report argues that this strategy must be underpinned by a national view of energy, with clear and stable objectives, and principles that are consistent with them.

Joseph Nye defined power in political strategy as the ability to influence the behaviour of others in order to get what you want. He distinguished between hard power and soft power, stating that the former is the threat and, where appropriate, the use of military power, while the latter has to do with the peaceful ability to attract, convince or seduce.

FAES Foundation will launch and present on Tuesday,  October 15 its reportPropuestas para una estrategia energética nacional (Proposals for a National Energy Strategy), which comprises the changes undergone by the energy sector in the past two years. Alberto Nadal, Secretary of State for Energy, Miguel Marín, Director of Economy and Public Policies of FAES Foundation, and Pedro Mielgo, Chairman of Nereo GreenCapital,  will participate in the launch.

Se defendió el uso de la energía nuclear y se reclamó una política responsable a largo plazo que, como elementos clave, busque garantizar la seguridad del suministro, la competitividad y la sostenibilidad.

La energía de fisión nuclear garantiza el abastecimiento energético, es barata en términos relativos, es operativamente segura, se ha demostrado inocua para la salud y se revela ventajosa en términos medioambientales al no generar emisiones de CO2 u otros gases de efecto invernadero. El progreso técnico reporta ya soluciones satisfactorias para los residuos, si bien es necesario seguir reforzando la investigación en este terreno. La elevada dependencia energética española y los compromisos de Kyoto refuerzan sus ventajas para España.
